Area of responsibility
The individual in this position is responsible, under the direction of the Music Program Supervisor, for ensuring and overseeing the musical quality of performances.
The Company expects every crew member to lead by example in terms of the ship product philosophy. Additionally, all tasks and duties must be carried out in compliance with ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental, hygiene, and safety regulations.
Every crew member may be required to perform functions in various service areas throughout the ship.
Each crew member is responsible for fulfilling host duties towards passengers ("side duties"). This includes, but is not limited to, guest guiding or welcoming at events such as Theater-/Blue Flora admission, changeover days, tendering, passport control, holidays, etc.
All employees must behave courteously and professionally at all times. This applies to both physical and verbal interactions with guests
Scope of duties
Assisting with the planning and organisation of necessary sound checks and technical setups, overseeing rehearsals, run-throughs, and shows to ensure musical quality in collaboration with the Music Program Supervisor, Technical Supervisor and Production Supervisor.
Acting as an artistic adviser regarding sound quality for singers and musicians (including guest artists) onboard.
Promoting the artistic development and providing creative guidance to singers and musicians, ensuring the maintenance of a high musical and artistic standard.
Rehearsing and accompanying solo vocalists on piano for solo programs, as well as accompanying singers at guest events, weddings, and other functions.
Actively guiding and providing organisational support for format synergies with mixed ensembles of musicians, singers, and guest artists on musical matters. The Company artists and guest artists are perceived as a unit by guests. Identifying and utilising synergies to offer a comprehensive and varied program is essential. Close collaboration with the Entertainment Supervisors and the Music Program Supervisor is required.
Providing creative and artistic supervision of rehearsals and performances for entertainment formats.
(Re)arranging music programs in collaboration with the Entertainment Supervisor Team and colleagues from shoreside, as well as receiving and implementing requests and requirements.
Integration into performances and sets with musicians and singers is desirable, including piano accompaniment for guest artists if needed, and, where possible, the implementation of personal concert formats.
Reporting all conflicts and workflow disruptions to the Music Program Supervisor.
Responsible for the condition and maintenance of all pianos onboard, in collaboration with the Music Program Supervisor (piano tuning, lifesaver system, etc.).
Preparing and updating detailed handover protocols/manuals for successors, as well as thoroughly introducing them to the role.
Communicating and relaying information on artistic and professional aspects in collaboration with the Music Program Supervisor, Sr. Travelling Entertainment Manager, and the music department of shoreside team.
Assisting in the preparation of appraisals for solo vocalists and musicians.
Knowledge of the assigned safety number (from ship statutes) and the corresponding safety duties.
Taking on additional tasks during handovers, dry dock periods, and crew changes.
Maintaining company confidentiality strictly, even after the end of the contract.
Understanding, following, and implementing all company policies and procedures.
Understanding and implementing the company's environmental protection policies in the workplace.
Ensuring careful handling of all company property.
Actively integrating into the onboard community and participating in team meetings.
Ensuring efficient performance in the work area.
Adhering to onboard regulations.
Qualification/Work Experience
Qualified musical education (instrumental studies / accompanist work / music college), with extensive experience in guiding and rehearsing with singers and musicians, is desirable.
Experience as an accompanist, musical director, or similar role, preferably onboard a cruise ship.
Experience in working with and accompanying singers.
Confident piano playing.
Experience in dealing with other artists and technicians.
Strong service orientation and customer focus.
Experience in complaint management is desirable.
