About the Role
The position holder is responsible for setting up, taking down and operating all on-board lighting equipment and for carrying out any related duties, as directed by their direct supervisor and in accordance with the competence level assigned. The Junior Light Technician is responsible for the use/operation, movement and storage of all lighting equipment used for performances by entertainers and during the course of activities organized by Entertainment Department staff and as directed by the shore-based Head Office and their direct supervisor.
Area of responsibility

The Junior Light Technician is responsible for the use/operation, movement and storage of all lighting equipment used for performances by entertainers and during the course of activities organized by Entertainment Department staff and as directed by the shore-based Head Office and their direct supervisor.
The Company expects each shipboard employee to consistently exemplify the ship product philosophy principles to all team members. Furthermore, all duties and responsibilities must be performed as per ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental, hygiene, and safety policies.
Every crew member can be required to perform all functions in the various service venues throughout the ship.
For every crew member, the fulfillment of host duties towards passengers ("Side Duties") is part of the scope of their duties. This includes, in particular, but not exclusively, guest guiding or greeting at events such as theatre admission, embarkation days, tender operations, passport controls, public holidays etc.
All employees must behave politely and professionally at all times. This applies to physical and verbal contact with guests or colleagues in all areas in which contact with guests and crew members occurs.
Scope of duties
Operating and controlling all lighting equipment and LED walls used by the Entertainment Department on board in cooperation with the Theatre Light Technician.
Taking charge of and managing all lighting technology (according to the inventory).
Handing over all lighting technology (according to the inventory) to their successor at the end of your contract.
Taking care of lighting and video of all performances as well as lighting and video programming of shows produced specifically on board, special events, guest artist performances, stage plays and events as part of entertainment programs. (Changes to repertory shows installed by the Cruise Liner Entertainment and set up by lighting designers are to be made only after consultation with shore-side officials and require written approval.)
Supporting the Theatre Technician in the operation of the stage automation system (if qualified).
Creating or updating the Handover Documentation and providing a detailed introduction to the work area for their successor.
Ensuring that equipment is properly maintained and that all parts of their work area are kept clean and tidy.
Creating and updating Inventory lists.
Ensuring that equipment is stored securely in a locked area after use.
Cooperation, coordination and mutual support in the technical aspects of the
entertainment division, especially in the area of expertise/same craft. This also includes temporary support in the operational daily tasks of another technical position with similar profession/craft.
Taking joint responsibility for lighting in all guest areas of the ship, as appropriate for the time of day.
Knowledge of the assigned safety number (from the ship's statutes) and the associated safety task.
Additional functions must be assumed during handover and time spent in the shipyard as well as during cast changes.
Treating corporate information as confidential, even after your contract has ended.
Knowledge, adherence and implementation of all company policies and procedures.
Understanding and implementation of the company’s environmental regulations in the workplace.
Ensuring the careful treatment of all company property.
Contact person for all passengers in the event of problems and complaints.
Active integration in the ship’s community, participation at team meetings.
Active implementation of the product philosophy.
Ensures that all work is carried out in the most economical manner possible and in accordance with the agreed quality standards.
Compliance with shipboard regulations.
NOTE: All work carried out becomes the property of the Cruise Liner. This applies to absolutely all content, whether intellectual or artistic in nature, and includes: the programming of controllers, creation of graphics, raw and edited video recordings, lighting or sound cues/programming, rigging cues/programming, computer programs/routines/files, and any other work carried out or utilized by the Cruise Liner. Additional remuneration cannot be claimed for such work.
(24) The Junior Light & Stage Technician is also responsible for:
a. Pool deck:
i. Operating the light mixing desk during shows and rehearsals in cooperation with the Theatre Light Technician.
ii. Maintaining lighting, programming, basic light settings, technical support and preparing the equipment for events (e.g. Bands, Guest artists, Events, shipside programs).
iii. Setting up and taking down mobile systems, incl. fog machines.
iv. Operating video systems, LED wall and associated video players.
b. Other local lighting systems:
i. Operating, controlling, setting up and breaking down all other local and mobile lighting systems during shows and events.
ii. Programming and applying basic light settings.
iii. Operating all LED walls on board belonging to the Entertainment department in cooperation with the Theatre Light Technician.
iv. Instructing, training and assisting other authorized operators (e.g. entertainment assistants, DJs, band members, musicians, guest dance instructors) in the use of equipment and ensuring that it is used properly.
v. Assisting the Sound and Light Technician in certain launges with taking care of lighting and video as well as lighting programming.
vi. Assisting the Theatre Light Technician in Theatre with taking care of lighting and video as well as lighting programming.
vii. Working with the Band Leader and DJ.
viii. Controlling and adjusting Entertainment lighting in all public areas.
c. Maintaining, repairing, retrofitting and ordering new equipment/parts in cooperation with the Theatre Light Technician:
i. Normal servicing and maintenance, special lamp replacement requirements and cleaning of lights and associated equipment.
ii. Repairing and Maintaining all LED walls on board belonging to the Entertainment department.
iii. Reporting any defects to their supervisor. Conducting active and structured error analysis and determining required repair work with their supervisor under the instruction of the Travelling TS and the Entertainment Technology Department Head Office (There is no authorization to carry out arbitrary repair work or modifications to electrical or electronic components).
iv. Collaborating with the supervisor for the ordering of expendable and replacement materials.
d. Theatre Stage Support
i. Overall support of the Theatre Technician for elaborate shows.
ii. Assisting Theatre Technician in operating the stage machinery (always under supervision of TT).
iii. Operating parts of the lower machinery for elaborate shows (only applies if respective stage console training was successfully conducted).
Qualification/Work Experience
Completed specialist training in events technology, with the focus on lighting equipment.
Very good knowledge of Light and Video technology.
Experience as a lighting technician in theatre/show productions.
Good knowledge of modern lighting control systems (GrandMA) as well as repairing standard lighting equipment, particularly moving lights.
Experience in programming lighting for special events and performances by guest artists.
Experience with Mediaservers (Coolux Pandoras Box, Widget Designer) beneficial.
Experience with MIDI and timecode beneficial.
Experience with large network systems (MA-Net, ArtNet) beneficial.
Experience with LED walls (Samsung, LedCon) beneficial.
Experience with projectors (Christie) beneficial.
Good knowledge of English mandatory.
Basic knowledge of PC Office Software.
