About the Role
The Junior Production Supervisor is an officer-level role within the Entertainment Department, primarily responsible for the staging, realization, and artistic quality control of onboard show formats. Operating under the direct guidance of the Production Supervisor, this position focuses on maintaining high artistic standards across various venues, including the theater and pool deck.
As a developmental role, it emphasizes on-the-job training to prepare the officer for future leadership within the fleet's "Step-Up" system.
Area of responsibility
The person in this position is responsible for the staging, realisation and artistic quality control of entertainment show formats under the guidance of the Production Supervisor on board, as well as the Travelling Management and in cooperation with the Cruise Director, Entertainment Program Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Studio Supervisor, La Cage Supervisor, Music Program Supervisor and Choreo Coach.
The Company expects each shipboard employee to consistently exemplify the Shipowner's product philosophy principles to all team members. Furthermore, all duties and responsibilities must be performed as per ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental, hygiene, and safety policies.
Every crew member can be required to perform all functions in the various service areas throughout the ship.
For every crew member, the fulfillment of host duties towards passengers ("Side Duties") is part of the scope of their duties. This includes, in particular, but not exclusively, guest guiding or greeting at events such as theatre admission, embarkation days, tender operations, passport controls, public holidays etc.
All employees must behave politely and professionally at all times. This applies to the physical and verbal contact with guests or or colleagues and all areas in which contact with guests and crew members occurs.
Scope of duties
The junior production supervisor reports directly to the production supervisor and supports them in their area of responsibility. Depending on their experience and suitability, the production supervisor may assign tasks to the junior supervisor for training purposes or for independent completion. At the same time, there is a duty of care and training towards the junior supervisor.
Co-responsibility for the production-related workflows on board (especially in the theatre or pool deck or mobile entertainment venues) in close cooperation with and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor.
Artistic realization and conceptual execution of the entertainment program under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor and under the overall direction of the Cruise Director.
Supporting the production supervisor by taking over all regularly recurring administrative tasks after an initial training, such as assigning side duties, checking timesheets, administrative processing of follow spot operator and crew show assignments, monitoring dresser reports and handover protocols, ensuring that backstage areas are kept tidy, writing AVOs and ordering consumables, taking minutes at meetings, and performing organizational tasks as announced. Undergoing training by the Production Supervisor in the disciplinary management of the subordinated crew members and related administrative activities. The junior production supervisor himself has no disciplinary responsibility.
Training within the management of subordinates within an on-the-job training.
In coordination and under guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in planning and realization of all entertainment formats as well as all performances by performers in different locations such as pool deck, bars and restaurants on board. Coordination and overview of the technology, music, costumes, choreography and artistry involved.
In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in Supervision and realization of guest artist shows, in close cooperation with Technical Supervisor and technicians. Support and supervision of the show set-up with a focus on the artistic realization of the content and support of the guest artists.
In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in Co-operation with the Musical Supervisor/Music Program Supervisor and Choreo Coach in the development of synergies and new concepts on board. Checking the artistic feasibility and conception.
In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in supervision and guidance of the artists and technicians in the conceptual preparation and realisation of new show formats, including rehearsal management and during the shows as Stage Manager.
Substitution and assumption of the duties of the Production Supervisor in emergencies and after approval by the travel management, in accordance with the "Step-Up" system. This requires a basic understanding of the PS's basic duties and responsibilities which has to be developed in advance during the normal day-to-day operations.
Training in the function of show management to control the quality for all repertory shows by Shipowner Entertainment in the theater and other venues, as well as the formats conceived on board.
Training in the function and duties of a stage manager in the theater and other venues (pool deck, restaurants, etc.), especially calling of shows under strict consideration of possible safety risks for persons and equipment.
Training in the creation of callsheets or call books when installing new shows or after revision when taking over from other ships. Maintaining and updating callsheets/callbooks and handing over to replacement.
Communication in technical and artistic aspects under supervision of the production Supervisor with the specialized department Direction / Production of Shipowner Entertainment and Travelling Management. In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in planning and management of repertoire rehearsals including giving notes / corrections. Planning and management of recast or put-in rehearsals in case of cancellations or changes of performers, in close cooperation with the choreo coach, musical supervisor and technical team.
In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in attendance of all rehearsals during cast changes in the theater and other locations on board as an assistant director to become familiar with quality standards and to ensure consistent quality after taking over shows. Supporting with the coordination of all rehearsals in the theater and with respect to subordinates in close consultation with Shipowner Entertainment and Entertainment Management and Supervisor-team on board.
In coordination and under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, providing support and being trained in organisational responsibility for the implementation of the content of the entertainment activities and the running of the pool parties under the direction of and in coordination with the Cruise Director, as well as taking over the evening show management / stage management for events on the pool deck. This also applies to other entertainment events and formats in other locations and venues on board.
Participation in the cruise planning of the Entertainment Program, under the guidance of the Production Supervisor.
Training in the editing and control of the daily and operational schedule in coordination with the Entertainment Supervisor-team.
Training in conducting of Pre-Departure Safety Trainings (PDST) for all incoming Entertainment Team members.
Creating or updating detailed handover protocols/manuals for the replacement as well as conducting a detailed introduction for the replacement to the work area and responsibilities.
Training in and supporting in the preparation of an End of Cruise Report for the Cruise Director once per cruise.
Training in conducting evaluation interviews and preparing appraisals for employees who report to the production supervisor. Administrative support in this area; if suitable, taking on the preparation of some of the appraisals under the supervision of the production supervisor.
Ensuring a clean and well-maintained condition in the public theater area, writing AVOs as necessary and initiating action with the assistance of the Hotel Support Team. Ensuring a clean and neat condition in the backstage area of the theater, with particular attention to safety and sanitation regulations, and instructing Dressers in this regard.
Knowledge of the assigned safety number (from the ship's statutes) and the associated safety task.
Continuous improvement of workflow and standards, including input to manuals and regulations.
General filing, administrative duties, emails, etc.
Additional functions must be assumed during handover and time spent in the shipyard as well as during cast changes.

Qualification/Work Experience
Completed training or studies in the field of directing / stage management / dramaturgy / cultural management.
Professional experience in performance management and/or assistant directing (focus on musical theater / shows).
Overall understanding of the interaction of all crafts in shows (music, dance, acrobatics, technical, costume, direction).
Experience in scheduling and rehearsal management.
Professional experience in stage management / as a caller or stage manager is desirable.
Experience in managing teams of artists / companies is desirable.
First directing experience is desirable.
Experience as a leader and in personnel management.
Experience in working and interacting with artists and technicians.
Experience in guiding team development potential/needs.
Business fluent in English (written and spoken); other language skills are a plus.
We encourage active communication with our German-speaking guests and expect participation in German courses on board until the specified language level is reached.
Experience in complaint management.
Experience in the tourism event sector is desirable - preferably on board a cruise ship.
Strong understanding of service and customer orientation.
Very good administrative skills in MS programs and other IT systems.
